Leicester City have signed 15-year-old Chesterfield striker Will Russ for an undisclosed fee.
The youngster is expected to slot straight into Trevor Peake’s Under-18s squad for the remainder of the season.
Russ has signed a scholarship form, although it is unclear whether there is a clause to automatically trigger a professional contract on his 17th birthday.
What is for sure is that Chesterfield have agreed a sell-on fee with Leicester should Russ move on for a fee in the future.
“It is fantastic for Will to be given an opportunity to develop and progress at a Premier League club, said Chesterfield academy operations manager John Knapper (per the Derbyshire Times).
He continued: “The coaching staff and academy manager must take great credit for the contact time in developing Will and more importantly, the support and guidance shown to Will in the time he’s spent at the club.
