Leicester City defender Sam Hughes has joined Salford City on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old has made the switch to the League Two outfit after an impressive start to the season for the Development Squad.

Hughes joined the Foxes from National League side Chester in 2017 after becoming the club’s youngest ever captain, but his contract on Filbert Way expires next summer.

A move to Salford could put him in the shop window for a permanent transfer next summer, given Leicester have plenty of centre-back options at first team level.

Leicester lost two Under-23 defenders on a permanent basis this summer, with Elliott Moore joining Oxford United and Alex Pascanu signing for Romanian side CFR Cluj.
