Oud-Heverlee Leuven have signed midfielder Xavier Mercier from Club Brugge.
The 29-year-old joins on a two-year deal and brings vital experience of promotion to Belgium’s top tier, something Leuven are aiming to achieve this season.
Mercier achieved the feat under the management of Vincent Euvrard and Frank Vercauteren at Cercle Brugge and will be looking to taste glory once more this season.
“I needed a new challenge,” he told ohleuven.com. “I look forward to competing in the Proximus League for promotion.
“I am very happy to be able to work with them again. They signed for three seasons here and that played an important role in my choice for OHL.
“Under their leadership, I made a lot of progress at Cercle Bruges. I really enjoyed their approach, both on and off the field.Their training sessions are varied, tactically they are both very strong and that was reflected in the matches. I think I can still make progress at Oud-Heverlee Leuven.”
