Leicester City have signed Wexford centre-half Darragh O’Connor.

The 20-year-old played for the Development Squad on trial last month and has now penned a contract with the Foxes.

Wexford manager Brian O’Sullivan said: “I really wish him well, he was a player who got better every week, his commitment and behaviour was always first class and it’s a great opportunity for him.”

O’Connor becomes the Development Squad’s sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of George Hirst, Ali Reghba, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Mitchell Clark and Callum Hulme.

It is expected that O’Connor will replace Alex Pascanu, who is set for a move to Romania before the European transfer deadline on September 2.
