Wexford defender Darragh O’Connor played for Leicester City Under-23s in a 1-1 draw with Radcliffe yesterday.
The 20-year-old featured from the start as a first-half goal from Tyrese Shade earned Leicester a draw in their final pre-season outing.
Irish striker Ali Reghba was sent off in the second minute after an altercation with a Radcliffe player, but the game quickly settled as both teams found their rhythm.
Centre-back O’Connor joined Wexford from Shamrock Rovers in January and is under contract with the Irish second tier club until December, meaning Leicester would have to pay a fee for his services.
Leicester have stepped up their scouting of Ireland in recent years, with Reghba recently joining from Bohemians and winger Shane Flynn starring for the Under-18s over the past eighteen months.
Billy Byrne has been the club’s Ireland scout for several years, while former defender Sean St. Ledger also works for City as a senior scout.
Starting XI vs Radcliffe: Johansson; Clark, O’Connor, Johnson, Ughelumba; Leshabela, Tavares, L. Thomas, Wright; Reghba, Shade.
Subs: Kranthove, Davies, D. Gyamfi, Daley-Campbell, Eppiah, Tee.
