Kelechi Iheanacho is one of two players to have been cut from the Nigeria squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has lost faith in Iheanacho due to his poor run of form and will not take him to the tournament, which runs from June 21 to July 19.
Having not scored since September, Iheanacho has failed to displace a host of talented strikers, including Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon and Odion Ighalo.
“Kelechi Iheanacho changed, he’s now much more quiet,” Rohr recently told the media. “He’s working seriously but he’s lacking confidence because he didn’t play so much.
”I see that he’s not happy but we want to make him happy, but we cannot give the players gifts, there’s competition.
”We have a lot of wingers, we also have good centre forwards now, we have three, so really we are lucky to have all these good players because the other countries are searching for strikers.”
Wilfred Ndidi has made the final Nigeria squad, while Islam Slimani will compete at the tournament with Algeria. Admiral Muskwe, who has been offered a new contract at City, is in Zimbabwe’s provisional squad.
