Leicester beat Wolves to signing of young Dutch defender

Leicester City have fought off competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Dutch centre half Justen Kranthove.

The 17-year-old joins from Dutch amateur club AFC ’34 and has penned a three-year professional contract with the Foxes.

He is expected to fight for a place in the heart of the Under-18s’ defence with Lukáš Hušek, Edward Elewa-Ikpakwu and Connor Barrett.

Kranthove turned down a scholarship offer from Wolves in favour of Leicester’s deal, with Watford and Notts County also expressing interest in the teenager.

English clubs first caught sight of Kranthove at the 2016 Youdan Trophy tournament, held in Sheffield, where he burst onto the radar of several scouts with impressive performances against Everton and Celtic.
